How can I help my child succeed in school?

  • Read every day! Take turns reading to your child and having your child read to you. Ask questions to help with reading comprehension.

  • Be positive! Encourage your child to talk about the fun things they have done or are going to do at school.

  • Create a consistent routine. This includes after-school routines, meal times, homework time, and play time. It may help to create a visual for younger children.

  • Make sure your child is getting plenty of restful sleep each night.

  • Encourage your child academically.

  • Teach your child to be responsible for his/her actions, words, and schoolwork.

  • Stay involved! Help your child with daily homework.

  • Communicate! Keep in regular contact with your child's teacher.

My name is Geneva Garza, and I am the school counselor at Eden CISD. This is my 10th year to serve as school counselor in Eden.

A little background information about my education. I graduated with my Bachelors of Arts in General Studies degree in 2002 from Schreiner University. Later, I pursued my master's degree and graduated from Angelo State University in 2014 with my Masters of Arts in Guidance and Counseling.

I look forward to seeing our students be successful. It takes all of us working together, so feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.
