According to an American Institutes for Research study titled Dyslexia and Related Disorders Reporting Study published in January 2019, dyslexia is the most commonly diagnosed learning disability. The Texas Education Code (TEC) defines dyslexia as "a disorder of constitutional origin manifested by a difficulty in learning to read, write, or spell despite conventional instruction, adequate intelligence, and sociocultural opportunity" (TEC §38.003(d). Students with dyslexia have difficulty reading without proper instruction. Often, students have difficulty with oral and written language as well.
